Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Other Psalm Settings

The Southern Crescent Chorale is pleased to be making its sixth appearance at Spivey Hall with a concert featuring the magnificent work Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein.  This piece will be accompanied by harp, percussion, and the world renowned Spivey Hall organ.  Bernstein was an award winning American conductor, composer, and pianist. He composed numerous classical pieces including symphonies and operas.  Perhaps he is best known for his long conducting relationship with the New York Philharmonic which included the acclaimed Young People's Concert series, and also for his musical theater works West Side Story, Candide,  and On the Town.  The Chorale will also perform a number of other pieces with text taken from the Psalms.  Some of these pieces include The Lord Is My Shepherd by Randall Thompson, Judge Me, O God  by Mendelssohn, O Clap Your Hands by John Rutter, and Sicut Cervus by Palestrina.  The variety of musical styles of the concert will bring joy to all the audience.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students and may be purchased from any Chorale member or at Spivey Hall (678-466-4200).
